World economy ‘not worth saving’
With almost half the World living on less than $2.50 a day (source: World Bank), and that’s 3 billion people, we must be able to come up with a better system.
It shocked me too. And 80% of the population lives on less than $10.
So, here we are saving a wealthy minority, who are in the position they are purely as a result of their greed and stupidity, at the expense of the majority.
It’s no wonder we have disillusioned youth, rising crime and an increasingly militant population. Returns from savings are down, fewer people are saving as a result; returns from pensions are down; the World is grinding to a halt. It’s long past the time for change.
A long time ago people lived by simpler rules and they are just as important today. That’s not to say that we can’t have the benefits of technology, we just need to reach a better compromise. For example, everyone in the World should have access to clean water, shelter and food. Making this happen should be the priority of us all. When this is in place is the time to look at luxuries.
Unless we get our collective heads around the idea that we can’t have what we want all the time, irrespective of who pays and how, then we probably have no future at all.
